Intuitive Eating 101: What is it?

Have you ever wished that you could just eat…without counting calories, feeling guilty about what you’re eating, worrying about how much fiber/nutrients are in your meal, feeling like you are “being bad, falling off the wagon, or off track?”

Do you wished you could eat as much as it takes to make you full and keep you satisfied, to give you the energy you need to thrive?

Guess what? You can!

Intuitive Eating offers freedom from the dieting, the diet mind set, and diet culture! Intuitive Eating is NOT a diet or meal plan. You can eat what you want, what you enjoy, and what your body asks for. Learn to make food choices with confidence and eat without guilt, without limits!

So what is Intuitive Eating?

Intuitive Eating a way of eating constructed around ten evidence-based principles created by two dietitians: Evelyn Tribole, MS, RD, and Elyse Resch, MS, RD, FADA, CEDRD. They outline these principles in their book: Intuitive Eating 4th Edition: An Anti-Diet Revolutionary Approach.

Intuitive Eating is a non-diet, weight-neutral, Heath at Every Size® aligned approach to eating that strives to put you in touch with your body and mind in order to meet your unique needs. It’s about more than just the food. It addresses the mental, emotional, and social impacts on eating and food choice as well as coping with your emotions, self-care, and movement. The final principle addresses gentle nutrition without any of the diet culture.

These foundational principles will guide you away from dieting to eating without limits!

The 10 principles are…

1. Reject the Diet Mentality

2. Honor Your Hunger

3. Make Peace with Food

4. Challenge the Food Police

5. Discover the Satisfaction Factor

6. Feel Your Fullness

7. Cope with Your Emotions with Kindness

8. Respect Your Body

9. Movement—Feel the Difference

10. Honor Your Health—Gentle Nutrition
